Dr. Colleen Hoffman

Department of Earth Sciences, Ph.D.

Colleen was trained as a synthetic chemist at the University of Southern California.  In her senior year, she decided to make the transition to pursue research in Marine/Geo-Chemistry.  She quickly found her passion in pursuing questions dealing with origin of life, nutrient cycling,  and biogeochemistry.  For her Ph.D., Colleen is pursuing questions involving iron and carbon cycling at Mid-Oceanic Ridge hydrothermal vents (underwater volcanoes).  She is currently being trained as a low-temperature geochemist, spectroscopist, and chemical oceanographer.
