Dr. Claire Simmerman is an environmental scientist specializing in contaminant hydrology, fate, and transport. Her expertise focuses on fresh water particulate matter including microplastics, and characterizing particles using chemistry, microscopy, and mass spectrometry techniques. She earned her Ph.D. in Water Resources Science from the University of Minnesota where her research focused on microplastic transport in agricultural watersheds.
Currently, Dr. Simmerman is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Minnesota where she is researching the cycling of carbon and iron in colloidal particulate matter using electron microscopy and synchrotron-based x-ray spectroscopy.
