Advanced Light Source, Spectromicroscopy Program

Edwin earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Systems from the University of California, Merced, and a B.S. in Geology from California State University, Fresno. His dissertation research focused on developing in-situ remediation media for mercury-contaminated sediments, incorporating spectroscopic and microscopic characterization of synthetic (e.g. manganese oxides) and natural materials (e.g. soils and sediments).

Currently, Edwin’s work involves developing a method for an in-situ flow cell compatible with scanning transmission X-ray microscopy carried out at the Advanced Light Source to observe real-time changes in redox chemistry of natural systems.
